Я правильно угадал, что вы сразу подумали про «Сказку о Военной тайне, о Мальчише-Кибальчише и его твёрдом слове».  Но на самом деле, подсказка была в самом вопросе, так как я спросил про автора повести, а не сказки. Так вот текст взят из повести Аркадия Гайдара «Военная тайна».

В отрывке была крохотная подсказка в том, что он начинался прямой речью, хотя в сказке идёт авторский текст.

Вот сравните, это из повести:

- Но...  видели ли вы, ребята, бурю? - громко спросила Натка, оглядывая  приумолкших ребят. - Вот так же, как громы, загремели боевые орудия. Так же, как молния,  засверкали огненные взрывы.

А вот как в сказке:

Но... видели ли вы, ребята, бурю? Вот так же, как громы, загремели и боевые орудия. Так же, как молнии, засверкали огненные взрывы. Так же, как ветры, ворвались конные отряды, и так же, как тучи, пронеслись красные знамена.

В повести действие происходит в неком неназванном месте, в котором легко угадывается лагерь «Артек» в Крыму, и один из героев книги рассказывает сказку о Мальчише-Кибальчише.

Честно признаюсь, я, когда начал писать вопрос, был уверен, что сказка изначально была часть повести. Но оказалось не так, сказка была написана и издана ранее, в 1933 году, а повесть «Военная тайна» издана лишь в 1935 году.  Вот так вот, задавая вопросы, многое узнаёшь и сам.
